Star Wars Spinoff Movie and Episode VIII Announced!
The first Star Wars spinoff movie was announced today! The title of the movie is Rogue One and is expected to be released December 2016!
Gareth Edwards will be the director and Chris Weitz will be writing the script. Felicity Jones was announced to be cast for the film.
Who do you think will be the main characters of the film? Wedge? Luke? Someone else? Filming is expected to begin Summer 2015 in London.
Star Wars Episode VIII will follow this film and will be released May 26, 2017.

I imagine for Rogue One, we will be seeing some fairly newish character. Given that Felicity Jones is already attached, its quite possible she will be taking charge of Rogue Squadron in the movie. I know a lot of the rumors for this one was pointing toward a Boba Fett movie (still got fingers crossed for someday), so seeing a Rogue Squadron movie is a pretty nice surprise.

Hmm, had it been called Rogue Squadron I'd have put my money on a new cast, but Rogue One is implying the commander, and that leans toward somebody who was in the films, which previously would have pointed at Wedge, but... dunno, Wedge isn't really the biggest name to the Average Joe- they didn't ask Denis Lawson for any cameos in the sequels- so I'd still wager on someone new maybe.
The actor who played Wedge was asked to be in the movies... he rejected the offered role.

Rogue One is more Han Solo. One = Solo. Rogue =Criminal aka smuggler.
They've already been talking about solo being the first stand alone for months.
/me doesnt like that this movie might be about rogue squadron. my tv pilot im writing is about rogue squadron gosh cant i catch a break.
They did ask him? Oh, interesting... that must have happened after the initial reports that they'd not cared :P
My first thought when I saw this and linked Felicity Jones to it in my brain was to have hope that she'd be playing Jaina Solo, who took a turn leading Rogue Squadron at one point... but thats asking for way too much I think. Either way, here's hoping all the increase in supposed X-Wing based Movie Glory leads finally to X-Wing 2 or TIE Fighter 2 :P
Jaina Solo probably has more chance than TIE Fighter 2 happening, lol
